I want to pose this question to all the forum members:

We all obviously are normal people outside this universe we've created for ourselves. And I can also assume we visit websites and save files to our computers. I was wondering...What does everyone do when it comes time when there friends, room mate, whoever, needs to use your computer?

The best solution is storing everything in an external hard drive, not only for your privacy, but also to keep the files if the PC need to be formatted

i keep it in a secret folder as well and if someone needs the browser or I know will be using it I wipe the history. I wipe it regularly just cuz I mean whatever I got important(non-pornographic) websites bookmarked

This is the best. IE explorer is my default for when friends or family are over, FF for all the secret stuff. Two separate set of coockies, history, favorites ect...

I have my "stash" saved in a folder within a folder etc etc etc, nobody will ever find it lol. And the first folder is right on the Desktop!

My "hardcore" favorites are within a folder hidden deep within my bookmarks.

I keep it in an invisible folder on my desktop.I use firefox because its easier to clear the history. I also have a separate user account for people who want to use the computer.

You guys are quite silly, "oh no one will ever find them"

I bet they will if they ever do a search for files > 10,000KB quite easily.

Use encryption, truecrypt.org

I do PC repair and come across these "stashes" all of the time, because in order to back up the files on their PC I typically do global searches for large files, since I usually back everything up and I never know where the users may store stuff.

So don't think nobody can find it.

first, opera for me now and firefox for everyone else (fuck internet explorer... no offense to those who use it but it literally SEARCHES for ways to infect your computer).

as for my stash, it can't be found by anybody using my computer because... think of it this way: you'd essentially have to log into an id that you can't possibly know exists. pair that up with the fact that i'm the only one who works with the hardware on my computer and i'm set.

Care to elaborate?

How can you have a secret ID? What's your OS?

I tried Opera, and while it seemed fine, I couldn't get pics to display in fit to screen. Maybe things have changed since then, but when viewing high rez images, it made me scroll to see everything which was a deal killer for me.

I have read nothing but positive reviews of truecrypt. I'm sure I'll monkey around with it one day. Is it complicated to set up?

The only time something got "breached" was when I lost my ipod at school that was loaded with nude pics of my girlfriend, who also went to said school. I'm fine with sharing nude pics, but not with anyone local. Nothing ever came of it, but I feel really dumb because I lost it just 3 weeks after I purchased it. $150 down the drain.

if you disable the user friendly login screen (in xp), you're left with a prompt to enter the username. pair that up with an external drive located inside of my other external drive (they share a case but you have to switch around the cable). the folders in the other drive can only be seen and entered by said username (just a locked/private folder). if you aren't me then you'd have to find the other place to put the cable (you have to move the plastic on the casing up a bit), hack the folders, AND navigate through a maze of shortcuts that take you back to the starting folder (each level looks the same). sounds like a pain in the ass to set up? it took about 5 minutes to set up (except for the other drive in the same case; that took 20 minutes or so but that was done at another time for another purpose).

I use two browsers and the browser I use is not on my desktop, only internet explorer is, I've never visited these sites on IE, so when people come over and use it, they use IE instead of what I use
