I've held my silence long enough. Somehow I went from being able to see hidden content, to seeing a message that says I need to donate $40... How did this happen? Why do I need to donate $40? I ran my own forum for nearly a year, hosted from my house on my own computer, and it was free. I only had to pay for the already existing internet service, which at 25mbps up and down is only $70/mo. Where does this pricing come from, and why is it suddenly being forced upon us?

the easy answer is that it just is because gassy has said so. the correct answer is that he has to pay for hosting overseas because people continuously try to shut down the board; simple as that.

second, no use complaining that you became elite after gaining active membership then stopping being active.

last, stop saying that paying is the only way to become an active member. it used to be that people only moved up by contributing to the board and it is the members that didn't have time that wanted another option.

Money is scarce at the moment for a lot of people, I don't see this getting better very soon, especially not with the drought in the US.

And I don't think anyone will ever be satisfied with what they have as long as there's something else out there honestly. It's human nature to be greedy.

I was actually trying to make a point to the people who are dissatisfied, but that got turned around. Don't take this the wrong way. I'm satisfied with what I've got. I was a donator for a bit but just can't afford to right now.

How hard is it to contribute videos/ stay active? it's illegal to host the "stolen content" but to post a link to where the content is hosted is perfectly legal. there are actually many reasons to hide the links (pretty much all of which have been said on this forum). the most important one is that rats who go out of their way to report the links and have them taken down tend not to have active membership. after all, if they worked hard enough to be active then they're less likely to sabotage the board. of course, they usually still get removed eventually but it takes much longer by hiding the links. you may think that more people seeing it right away means a higher chance of the video getting reuploaded when it does get taken down but the people who reup clips are usually active members anyway.

you act like this forum is trying to sell a product. we are a community. one that has a ton of people who want everything for free. a ton of people who want to do nothing and bask in the glory of everybody else's hard work. if links weren't reported, then while annoying, that would be fine. if letting everybody see the clip you're posting means that there's a good chance that the people who actually contribute will never get to see it, then something is wrong. hiding links ups that chance. but who gets to see hidden links? how about the people WHO CONTRIBUTE.

more often than not, the links are POSTED hidden. they aren't getting hidden because they already are. people are tired of posting something for a few people in particular only to find that those people never had a chance to see it because it was removed too fast then having to reupload it upwards of 4 times because all of the other people who got it aren't even willing to spend the time to reupload something they wouldn't even have if not for the kindness of someone who did in the first place.

no, hiding the links isn't going to make YOU want to contribute more. people see what they can get if they just work a bit at it and they do. knowing that there are measures in place to help make sure they have the best chance possible to see the content they want helps make them want it even more.

I can hardly remember a time when I ACTUALLY gave a SERIOUS complaint about hidden content. Maybe way early when I started on the forum but even then, I understood the fact. I wasn't bitter about it. I even got a premium rank for the forum once. But I was definitely an active poster, and upped a couple clips here and there. Mainly cause my laptop was trashed I couldn't do anything, so I stockpiled when I could using a hard drive, tablet and old PC that was shitty for uploading. I took the opportunity one day using someone else's cause I needed it for a project, and anonymously uploaded lots of clips and there we go. So coming from someone who knew da struggles, but climbed from chump to champ... Anyways point is earning active feels a lot better than complaining about not having it. Shit, some of the clips I uploaded were found absolutely free elsewhere on the internet, stream sites etc. But if nobody else found me here, then they count as new. I bought some myself, yes but there are ways to get bang for your buck.

The funniest part part is, probably nobody is ever gonna read this cause it's now in the cafe lmao.
